All in the Family // anything goes

Our family Christmas Eves are legendary. Food of all shapes, colors and tastes. Trees decked out as glitzy as the gals are. Practical jokes, mad gossip and gag gifts aplenty. Oh, and enough rough-housing, drink swillin' and ciggie smoking to bring the house down. The tradition has always been that there is no tradition (unless you count carol singing, over-eating and general mass mayhem). Anything goes! Well, maybe it's tamed down a bit since the sixties... Though we'll miss the gaggle this year, we love knowing that even from afar, the legend continues. xo

A Very Hannah & Alex Holiday // Movie IV

Everyone needs something to look forward to during the craziness of the holidays. This is my something.

My brilliant sister and brother-in-law have done it again, folks... they've taken their holiday movie tradition to a whole new level this year with a spoofy, side-splitting, fun-loving dark comedy in music video form. Enjoy a cast of dedicated buddies, Alex's brilliant filming, music, and special effects, as well as Hannah's Dusty Springfield pipes, hilarious lyrics, and saucy dance moves. Did I mention it takes place in Justin and my new living room?

Give the video a spin below, or check out their new HOLIDAY VIDEO COMPENDIUM, where you can watch and read more about all of their movies, enjoy outtakes and click through candid on-set photos. In addition to this year's masterpiece, you'll find a jolly Bay Area who-dunnit, a rescue mission romance set in space, and a creepy noir murder mystery, all packed with song, dance, and genuine holiday hilarity.

This could be your something, too... what's your favorite bit?

Kiyoshi's Woolies // holiday shopping guide #4

You may remember when we launched Kiyoshi's site earlier this year... since then I've been stalking my mailbox for his woolie-filled packages to shoot for his portfolio. The saddest part is having to mail them back! Each hand felted creation is intricately crafted and so incredibly realistic that it's hard to spot the real animals from the wool ones on his farming blogIf you're running out of ideas for presents this year, jot Kiyoshi an email to set up a gift certificate for a personal wool creation. If could be a replica of a pet, a favorite wild animal, or a "just because" custom splurge. I already have some surprises in store for my own family...

Boys' Fort // holiday shopping guide #3

All you Portlanders out there, you have a big treat in store for just one more week. A sweet little pop up shoppe has opened its doors downtown and I urge you all to go check out what people are calling the new "manthropology". Hannah and I swung by Boys' Fort last week to shoot their amazing space and wares... mustache wax, air plants, bowties, furniture, art, bags, vintage treasures, and woodworking galore await you. We each snagged a couple river driftwood plaques with air plants in them for our living rooms and had to flee the scene before buying the place out... Thank you Rolfe and Jake for the genius curating and incredibly friendly service! You'll find shop directions and details here.

Thank you to the incredible blog, DESIGN SPONGE, for the sweet feature-- check out their post for more details and photos. Remember, the doors close after the holidays, so get in there while you can!

Treasure Cycle // holiday shopping guide #2

I know I've gushed lots about this pixie wunderkind before, but the sentiment bears repeating: Cady has impeccable style, thrift store genius-vision, and hands small enough to create gems that look forged by mother nature herself... and now she has an online store packed with precious jewels both handmade and vintage, ready for the holidays. Her myriad of rings, lockets, cuff bracelets, brooches, feathers, pendants and bangles will send your heart aflutter...

Peek below for only a tiny portion of the Treasure Cycle Collection I've amassed... (as well as a sneak from her upcoming wedding post!) How do you get your mitts on these beauties, you may be wondering?

**All you Bay Area Brats out there!** check out the local trunk show TONIGHT! 7:30 pm at the glorious Chocolate Covered (4069 24th st. in Noe Valley) or... if you're stuck hundreds of miles away like I am and can't make it, spree happily in her etsy shop here or drool over her her latest dazzling vintage purchases on her blog here. Let the spree-ing begin!

Real Love // joan & jay

I've been giddy to share the rest of these since my 35mm Film post a couple months ago.... Joan and Jay's foggy Bay Area wedding kinda blew my socks off. Picture this: thirty shivering, giggling figures huddled on the top of a foggy mountain, pal Brett Dennen singing Real Love, all the while two incredibly kindred spirits tie the knot.

Please swing by GREEN WEDDING SHOES to hear Joan and Jay talk about the planning and details behind the intimate and genuine day that Hannah and I were so lucky to be a part of.
